Goldfish Conical Teacup

Product Overview

Name: Goldfish Conical Cup (Jinyu Douli Bei)

Clay Type: White Duan Ni

Capacity: 30cc

Form: Conical Cup (Douli Bei)

Form Origins

The conical cup is shaped like an inverted bamboo rain hat—wide mouth, sloping walls, and a small foot—a classic Song dynasty teacup form. During the Song dynasty, when tea competitions were in vogue, the conical cup became mainstream because its wide mouth facilitated observing tea liquor color and its sloping walls aided heat dissipation. 30cc is the standard small cup capacity for Gongfu tea; the “three” in the saying “three for tea, four for wine” refers to how cups should not be large when three people are tasting tea.
