Tall Pumpkin Teapot

Product Overview

Name: Tall Pumpkin (Gao Nangua)

Clay Type: Benshan Lü Ni

Capacity: 130cc

Form: Original Design (Sculptural Ware · Biomorphic Ware)

Form Origins

The pumpkin teapot is a classic subject in Zisha sculptural ware—Chen Mingyuan’s “Dongling Gourd Teapot” (now in the Nanjing Museum) is the pinnacle of Zisha biomorphic ware. This “Tall Pumpkin” takes a Song dynasty stone-carved pumpkin as its prototype, with a taller, more slender form that aligns perfectly with the Song dynasty aesthetic of “lean elegance.” The Song stone pumpkin is plump in form with distinct ribbing, embodying the Song spirit of “investigating things to extend knowledge” through realistic depiction. The redesigned spout and handle add a modern sensibility atop the archaic foundation.
